Product Description

🔧 A wire strainer multiplies your tension force

The simple turn‑and‑lock mechanism isn’t just convenient — it gives you mechanical advantage, meaning a small twist can generate hundreds of pounds of tension in the straining wire. That’s why they’re ideal for keeping crop bars, ridge wires, and side bracing tight without specialist tools.

🌬️ Proper wire tension improves polytunnel wind resistance

A well‑tensioned straining wire helps the frame resist lateral movement. Even a small amount of slack can increase wind‑induced flex, which accelerates wear on polythene and fittings. A £2 strainer can meaningfully improve the tunnel’s stability.

🪵 They’re also used in fencing — but polytunnel use is more precise

In agricultural fencing, strainers are used to tension long runs of wire. In polytunnels, the distances are shorter, so over‑tensioning is the bigger risk. Too much tension can distort timber end frames or pull eye bolts out of softwood.

đź’ˇ One strainer per wire run is usually enough

Because the mechanism locks under load, you rarely need two strainers on the same wire. If someone uses two, it’s usually to correct a poorly anchored end rather than for strength.
