Aluminium Base Rail

Upgrade Your Polytunnel with Our Aluminum Extrusions and Fixings

  • These aluminium extrusions are compatible with other manufacturers’ polytunnels, which is unusual — most structural components in the UK market are brand‑specific. This makes them one of the few “universal” upgrade options.

  • The range includes single and double aluminium extrusions, meaning you can tailor strength and rigidity depending on whether you’re reinforcing base rails, side rails, or both. Double rails are typically used where extra clamping strength is needed.

  • PVC infills (top and bottom) are sold separately, which tells you these rails use a proper clamping system rather than simple screw‑on battens — a more professional, longer‑lasting method.

    🛠 Installation & Upgrade Context

  • Used for rails for revamping, extending, or moving a polytunnel, which hints at their role in giving older tunnels a new lease of life — especially second‑hand frames that need fresh clamping hardware.

  • Because they’re aluminium, they’re corrosion‑resistant, making them ideal for coastal or high‑humidity environments where steel battens degrade faster. (This is an inference based on material properties, supported by the product being aluminium.)

Aluminium Rail Joiner

0 review(s)

  • The aluminium rail joiner is required for connecting both single and double aluminium extrusions, meaning it’s a universal connector across the whole rail system — not all suppliers design theirs this way.

  • It’s supplied as a pack of two, each with 3mm grub screws, which tells you the rails rely on a proper mechanical clamping system rather than simple push‑fit or overlap joints. This gives a stronger, cleaner finish.

🔧 Material & Design Insights

  • The PVC infill is designed to work with both single and double aluminium extrusions, meaning the manufacturer uses a unified rail profile system — great for repairs or upgrades without compatibility headaches.

  • The top and bottom profiles are intentionally “kinder” to polythene or net, reducing abrasion and extending cover life. This is a subtle but important design choice for long-term durability.

Single Aluminium Extrusion (Base rail), available in a variety of lengths. We use this single profile on base rails for Polytunnels. Designed to accept 200 micron polythene and used in conjunction with our PVC infill and Rail Joiners.

  • The double aluminium extrusion is specifically designed for base rails, meaning it’s the heavy‑duty option in the rail system — ideal for areas where cover tension and structural strength matter most.

  • It’s engineered to accept 200‑micron polythene, the industry‑standard thickness for long‑life polytunnel covers. This confirms the extrusion is built for proper grip and durability.

  • The system relies on PVC infills and rail joiners, creating a professional clamping method that avoids rot, warping, and uneven tension.

Double Aluminium Extrusion, available in a variety of lengths. We use this double profile on base rails for Polytunnels. Designed to accept 200 micron polythene and used in conjunction with our PVC infill and Rail Joiners.  Attached to the framework with intermediate and corner clamps.
